Analong Art Tool Box

This page is a list of the tools and supplies I use to create my analog (traditional art) which consist of Graphite and Watercolor at this time.

This page will be constantly updating as I discover more tools and drop some off that I no longer use.

It will explain why I use it and how I find the tool or supply useful.  And I will endeavor to provide the source to obtain the tools.

Detail Paint Brushes Set 10pcs Miniature Brushes for Fine Detailing & Art Painting -

  Just added these brushes to do very small detailed work.  Will review later after I use them.

Canson Plein Air Watercolor Art Board Pad for Watercolor, Ink, Gouache and Acrylic, 9 x 12 Inch, Set of 10 Boards

This is my go-to board for creating watercolor paintings.  It is a bit pricy at about $2.00 a board but I love the stiffness, surface, and how the sheets do not curl when painting.

U.S. Art Supply 9" x 12" Watercolor Book, 2 Pack, 76 Sheets, 110 lb (230 GSM) - Linen-Bound Hardcover Artists Paper Pads - Acid-Free, Cold-Pressed, Brush Painting & Drawing Sketchbook Mixed Media

This is my favorite water color art pad.  I like the size, weight of the paper, and the texture.  Some may not like sketch pads this large but it is the same size as the art boards I use and gives my work consistancy.

Acid Free 1.496mil (Single Side) Crystal Sealed Clear Bags for 9x12 Art Prints, Photos, 9 3/8 Inches by 12 2/5 Inches, 25-Pack

Each time I finish a watercolor painting and it dries I place the painting in one of these clear cover to protect it.  This also allows people to hold and view the painting without fear of getting smug or finger prints on it.

When going out in Florida to do open air Plein Air Painting Urban Sketching I have found this $16.00 investment great.  It is like having a shady spot no matter where I am.

20 Pieces Silicone Tips Clay Modeling Clay Sculpting Tools Wipe Out Pottery Tools for Carving,Shaping,Clay Sculpture,Modeling,Painting

This is new to my toolbox.  If you have ever worked with masking fluid you would know it is nearly impossible to get out of a brush once you use it.   These are remarkable as you can use them to apply the masking fluid and once it dries it comes right off the brush tip.

51 Pieces Watercolor Paint Palette and Half Pans Set Watercolor Tin Box Metal Palette Paint Case with Lid Empty Watercolor Pans with Black Storage Bag for Travel Painting Artist (Black)

. What I have learned from a life long Disney artist and my friend is to limit  your paint pallet.  I only use 11 colors (Explained in the paint list below).  These consist of the primary colors plus white, black, and a green that I particularly like.  All the other colors can be mixed from these base colors.  So this little Tin Box is perfect size to take out.

My paint pallet is very limited.  I use the primary colors and mix the colors I need.  Though I am new to this, I am fining it not hard at all to learn using a color wheel.  I only use Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolor paint and purchase the large .47oz Tubes.  Though a bit expensive, you use so little amount of the paint they last a very long time.  I fill my little pans in the Tin Tray above.  Here are the colors I use.
* White
* Burt Sienna
* Alizarin Crimson
* Cadmium Red
* Winsor Yellow
* Cadmium Yellow
* Prussian Blue
* Ultramarine Blue
* Black
* Paynes Gray
* Hooker's Green (Because I use a lot of green and just like the color)

Flat Hake Brushes Hake Paint Brush Artist Painting Brushes Set Sheep Hair Bristles Wash Brush for Watercolor, Wash, Ceramic and Pottery Painting, 1 Inch, 2 Inch, 3 Inch (6)

These brushes are great for wetting paper, or adding a lot of water to the paper.  They also work well on painting skys.

Artist Fan Paint Brushes Set,9 Pcs Professional Soft Anti-Shedding Fan Brush for Acrylic Oil Watercolor Gouache Painting Kits with Long Handle Nylon Hair

These are also new to my toolbox and are good for painting pine trees.

Pentel Arts Aquash Water Brush Assorted Tips, 4 Pack Carded (FRHBP4M), White

These are my favorite brushes when I go out.  The amount of water they hold seems to be perfect for a long session of painting and I love the feel of the tips.  Just a little squeeze and you have more water.  Squeeze a little into the pain, you you are ready to go.  I would highly recommend these.

Transon Round Watercolor Detail Paint Brushes Goat Hair 8pcs for Watercolors,Acrylics,Inks,Gouache,Oil and Tempera

My round brushes.

Pentel Hi-Polymer Block Eraser, Large, White, Pack of 10 ZEH-10 Erasers (ZEH10PC10)

3M Micropore Paper Tape - White, 1/2" Wide - 6 Rolls

This is the best tape I have found for masking the edges of your paper or taping down you paper.  It tares easy, sticks great to block any water or paint from seeping under it, and it removes easy not even lifting the fibers of the paper.

Koh-I-Noor Technigraphic Lead Holder (5611)

This is the only pencil I use.  I love it as it is the perfect size and weight, and it does not get shorter when sharpening it.  I use the sanding block shown below to sand the led to a point.  The lead is sold separately.  I like the 6B led but also use the 2H for fine line detail.  I rarely use the 2H for Urban Sketching.

Prismacolor Turquoise 3B Drawing Leads, 12 Count

This listing is for the 3B though I use 6B.  I was unable to find it on Amazon but I am sure 3B should be fine.  This is 2mm led and works with the holder above.

Sandpaper Sharpener - 2 Pieces Sketch Sandpaper Pencil Sharpener Lead Pointer Art Drawing Tool for Adults, Teens, Artists

This is what I use to sharpen my lead in the lead holder above.  I simply roll it along the sand paper.  Rolling the pencil as I go to produce a sharp point.  I then tap the sanding block onto the side of something to release the excess graphite.

Sennelier Egg Tempera Wooden Box Set, 20 Piece, Multi

This was gifted to me.  I had never heard of it before and after some research, I was amazed to find that Egg Tempera pre-dates oil painting and has been around since the Renaissance period.  It is much like Gwauch in that it has the buttery feel of oil paint but dries very quickly.  It also can be thinned with water and used like watercolor.  The paint is very opaque and not translucent like oil paint.
